On a weekend getaway trip to San Francisco in November 2003, my wife and I spent a day at Pier 39 on Fisherman's Wharf visiting and shopping at the art galleries and little shops. As we were leaving the pier later that evening, I heard a smooth sound in the background. As we got closer, we saw a musician playing his saxophone in front of the Christmas tree, and he was producing the sweetest music I have ever heard. When he finished his song, my wife and I introduced ourselves and purchased his CD, Broadway Blues, that was released in August of 2001

The street musician was Stephen Dreyfuss, a saxophone player and resident of the Bay area. Broadway Blues fuses his instrumental and vocal artistry with that of 15 all-star Bay area musicians, including such artists as Larry James, Jim Pugh, Gary Brown, and Ed McClary. This is his fourth CD in eight years and it clearly demonstrates his sensitive mastery of the tenor and baritone saxophones. His imaginative compositions and arrangements show deeply in Broadway Blues. Its soft and smooth instrumental and vocal blues would appeal to people in all walks of life and at any age. The Title, Broadway Blues, is an excellent choice for the songs presented on the CD.

My wife and I could have stayed there all night listening to Stephen perform. Street music with this high degree of talent and professionalism is a rarity. He sums it up by saying, "I produce my own CDs based on my own wide ranging tastes, with the intention of selling them as a street musician first and foremost." And he has accomplished just that.
