Description
After years of listening to Steppenwolf, my wife and I had the privilege of actually meeting him at a 2003 concert. What a powerful singer he is! Many moons ago, I stumbled across an album titled John KayóLone Steppenwolf. After listening to it, I was blown away by the power of his voice as a solo artist, although at the time I didn't realize he was solo. It wasn't until I meet his Tour Manager and Merchandise Coordinator that I learned this album actually contains ten of the best selections from John Kay's two solo albums: 1972's Forgotten Songs and Unsung Heroes and 1973's My Sportin' Life.
Featuring Kay's favorite works, Lone Steppenwolf came out in 1988 and presents a cross-section of various musical influences. It contains both his well-known version of "I'm Movin' On" (1972) and his fine take on "Drift Away" (early 1973), recorded before Dobie Gray's version was released in late 1973.
While this album contains a variety of musical styles with some blues, it is still a must-have for your blues collection!
